Bringing the outdoors to women.
It all started on a hike…
The Why
The Four Pass Loop in Colorado. A 3-4 day hike that is described as both striking and beautiful as it is rugged and physically challenging for the most experienced hiker. And in one year I will go solo.
That is the goal I gave myself after finishing a hike one afternoon.
In my excitement I immediately started researching. And after many hours in front of the computer looking at every site known to Google I came up with…nothing. Almost zero of the information I found was solely focused on women and the outdoors.
Almost 40% of hikers are women and yet just about the only female driven source of information we have is the book Wild. Hell, even the outdoor stores we could go to would still be predominantly male-driven in both product and information sources.
Harper Mae Outdoors became the answer to The Why: because as a woman who loves the outdoors, who is teaching my daughter to love the outdoors… we deserve a community and safe place to learn and feel supported in our adventures.
“I was amazed that what I needed to survive could be carried on my back. And, most surprising of all, that I could carry it.”- Cheryl Strayed
